What I did this weekend
Stared at my foster cat Wally
Made up songs about Wally and sang them to him while clutching him
Wondered what would happen if we left Wally free to roam in the apartment alone—would he climb on the stove and catch on fire?
Told my boyfriend, “the only thing that really concerns me is Wally getting on the stove and catching on fire.” He replied, “That’s insane”
Watched Judas and the Black Messiah and cried quietly so as not to disturb Wally
Thought about eating a weed gummy but decided not to
Watched Summer House and thought: Carl, 36, has really matured. Look at how he makes his own bed now as he recovers from his parents’ divorce
Looked up affordable beanies to wear as my new “indoor hat” because I have been picking my hair due to anxiety
Imagined shooting a professional calendar of Wally as various foods (a pumpkin muffin, a bowl of spaghetti)
Passionately announced to my loved ones for the 5th time that I plan to sign up for a community herbalism class
I did some work also but that’s boring to discuss
Watched Wally staring out the window at squirrels. Thought about how smart he is
Ran out of underpants
Spilled Holy Basil tea on myself
Went to the garden to look at the chickens but their coop was covered in tarp due to winter conditions. Looked at the tarp instead
Read about Texas (click here for places to donate if you haven’t yet) and the increasing precarity of U.S. infrastructure
Cold-called my friend who just wrote about cold-calling friends, she was unfortunately unable to chat
Re-read my chicken email updates. The girls have become vicious and Dolly was bloodied. She had to be relocated to someone’s basement, and may move to another person’s apartment, where she will apparently wear what were referred to as “chicken diapers”
Love, Ellie
