Things Maggie Gyllenhaal and Peter Sarsgaard Said During an Architectural Digest Tour of Their Brooklyn Home:
Come on into the parlor
We put our own bespoke fireplace up
You can heat the house just with those a lot of the time, because we have four of them
We craft-papered the walls
We actually have reams of craft paper in the basement
This room is the music room
I played the theremin in a movie
The idea of this room is to take inspiration from other artists
My good friend Jordan played with Ornette Coleman. And this is from a score he did from A Girl Named Rainbow, and you can see he wrote: 'Ornette: The knowledge of goodness? Peter.' I don't really know what that means, but it's something to think about as we sit here
We created this hearth piece
This is a teak bathtub
It's amazing, it's made by Scottish barrel makers
This is another working fireplace. It's really nice to have a fireplace in your bedroom
We do also have a lot of teak throughout the house
So this is Dinah [holds cat aloft]. Dinah, believe it or not, is only two years old
It has heated tiles. They're from California, which is where I'm from
We sort of felt like, just go with the den vibe. Just like, not pretend that it's something that it isn't
This is also all teak
Love,
Ellie
