How attached is everyone to this “Horrible Lists” idea?
Well, you haven’t received one in a very long time so you can’t be that attached
What if I wrote about gardening and plants (and bugs and people) instead…?
That is already what most of my lists are about so this is not a major shift, to be clear
“Ellie’s Garden”? Or some such. I need to workshop this a bit
I could start a whole new Substack rather than change this one. I don’t really feel like doing that, but I could
Here’s my pitch: It would be an odd little mix of lists AND blogs AND hopefully useful tips, from a writer who is learning how to be a gardener
Oh I don’t know… maybe down the line I would do interviews
But this would continue to be free and therefore kind of slapdash and informal
That would also help me avoid excessive professional overlap, because I am an editor at a botanical garden and some of my job involves editing gardening articles
I’m also not entirely qualified to give gardening advice. But I find that to be another strength of the pitch here
It’s hard to be funny about gardening sometimes (I just love it so much) but I would try
I do keep encountering this idea that gardening is trivial or indulgent or somehow unrelated to politics, which is wrong - I’d like to discuss this
Tell me what you think. I’m not sure if you, Horrible List subscriber, are interested in growing plants. But maybe you should be? Consider that.

I agree with Chris Duffy.
I will read anything you write any time and be so thrilled to read it
